Tattoos/scars/other markings: No. Too afraid of pain, really. Has her ears pierced, but that’s it.
Training: None to speak of. She’s entirely self-taught. Something to help her manage herself and her time.
Psychological profile: Kohlani has been diagnosed with mild Hyperactive-Impulsive type ADHD. She fidgets constantly, tapping a foot or switching positions in her chair. Oftentimes (now) it’s sucking on a piece of candy or chewing some gum. She cannot cease movement. It is impossible for her to wait for anything, and her attention wanders. Even when she is programming, she’s restless. Constantly fidgeting or moving or switching programs. Along with this, she is very impulsive, and will say and do whatever she wants to without thinking of the consequences.
Kohlani also exhibits signs of socialization issues. She talks almost constantly, much to the chagrin of others. Her mentality, instead of being at the appropriate age of 20, tends toward the 16 or 17-year-old variety. However, she is also extremely intelligent. Ignorant in some areas, yes, but is a brilliant programmer.
Skills: Programming. Kohlani has programmed and currently maintains the security systems for SHIELD. Her servers (next to a few select people) are some of the most secure in the world. She is a decent hacker, understanding how programs work, but thinks hacking is rude, making a mess of something someone worked so hard to create. She is also heavily familiar with all sorts of other security systems, including cameras, infra-red beams, motion detectors, and the like.
One other skill that she has yet to fully realize is her power dampening ability. (Whether this remains in after apping her character in will be decided by mods. For the 4th wall, it will not be present.) When touching or holding onto someone or something, she can absorb it's power. For non-enhanced humans, that is their consciousness/life force, causing them to pass out. When in contact with others, well, strange things happen. They lose their "superpowers", turning them into regular humans once again.
Once she absorbs the power, she shoots it out like a concussive blast from the center of her person. It expands in all directions until it dissipates, the blast radius of which depends on the amount of power she absorbs. Just like overclocking a computer, she is exhausted after this and extremely weak. If she absorbs too much power without releasing it, she will fall unconscious, have an immense fever, and likely die.
Background: Kohlani was always overactive as a child. “Hyper”, most people called her. She never sat still, never listened, talked constantly. She was diagnosed with ADHD in the fourth grade and began therapy. When that didn’t work, her parents decided to start her on medication. These had side effects such as migraine headaches, painful stomachaches, and horrible problems falling asleep at night. She also developed a small tic – tilting her head to the side toward her right shoulder. It bothered her and everyone around her. She noticed these changes and hated them. Her parents finally listened and took her off the medications, but began, instead, to attempt therapy. Behavioral therapy helped some, but not fast enough. The family began to split apart and Kohlani retreated. She wasn’t popular at school, not even close. She didn’t like sports and the other kids thought she was “weird”.
She owned her own first computer by the age of 12. Began coding the same year. She started with the basics – “Hello world” in Java, loop structures in BASIC, etc – and quickly moved past them. Soon, she was an online presence. Under the handle “HyperHibiscus”, she quickly stormed chat boards, solving programming problems too complex for even professionals to handle. Running out of things to do herself, she began designing challenges and presenting them to hackers, just to find something to do. That was how SHIELD found her.
A hacker that had been on the government’s radar for a while had participated in one of Kohlani’s exercises. When the police confiscated his computer and pulled apart the programming, they were surprised to find that he had logged hours into a single site. They opened it up and found a simple webpage blocked by what seemed to be steel doors of the most elegant code they’d ever seen. The webpage was quickly passed about offices and up ladders until it reached the desk of one of SHIELD’s agents. It had become a bit of a legend by then and, though he was able to break the code, the agent sent for Kohlani. Choosing to leave behind her family was easy enough, as she’d withdrawn from them for years previous. She left behind the HyperHibiscus moniker and adopted CandyCoder as she entered SHIELD service.
